Beginners

 

Learn the 6 or 8 count basic foot pattern as the foundation of the dance.

Group Classes

CLASS 1

 

This class is for the individual who has heard of Chicago Stepping, but has never tried any formal dance styles, who may be unskilled at formal dance, and/or  has absolutely no sense of rhythm. It is called the Beginners class because you need someone to take care of you...and the instructors will do just that.

 

 

​​CLASS 2

 

This class is an opportunity to take the information learned from Class 1, and put it to use in a demonstration of basic 6-8 count proficiency, catching the beat, basic turns and basic understanding of lane placement.

 

 

​​CLASS 3

 

This class allows you to start with a partner and put all of your previous classwork together to form a basic dance using basic 6-8 count patterns, turns, combinations, formal/informal address and timing while putting it all together..

Chicago Stepping (while some make it look easy) is actually a very disciplined and refined dance style compared to the Bop,  2 Step, various Hand Dance and a few others. Chicago Stepping will require you to master a few basic moves and understand why the basic moves are so important for the follower as well as the lead.

Basic 6-8 Count

 

Learn and understand the foundation of the 6 and 8 count pattern, how it was derived, and the importance of each count.

Basic Turns

 

​Learn and understand the basic turns or the dance and learn how to perform the turns in a disciplined, precise manner.

Rules and Lanes

 

​Learn and understand the rules associated with the lead and follower and why the specific lanes for each participant help shape the dance. 

Practice Suggestions

 

​Develop ways to sharpen your dance skills and learn the tricks and tips to develop your skills faster.

Combinations

 

Learn how to incorporate the basic 6-6 count pattern with turns to create combination turns and associated footwork.
